Embroidered vs. screen printed custom backpacks
Two ways to put your brand on a backpack, and they suit different jobs. Here is which one you need.
The short answer
Choose embroidery when the backpack has to look like uniform for years: a stitched mark holds its shape through the flexing and rubbing a pack sees every day. Choose screen print when the artwork is large, full colour or tied to a single-season promotion. Get Custom Backpacks offers both, shows you a mockup first, and will tell you honestly which one your artwork suits.
Side by side
| Embroidered | Screen printed | |
|---|---|---|
| How it is made | Thread is stitched into the fabric by machine from a digitised version of your logo | Ink is pushed through a stencil onto the surface of the fabric |
| Look | Raised, textured and premium; reads as uniform | Flat and crisp; reads as graphic |
| Artwork size | Best for compact marks such as chest, lid or strap logos | Best for large, full-colour or edge-to-edge artwork |
| Durability | Thread survives flexing and rubbing that wears print away | Can wear on high-flex panels over years of daily carry |
| Best for | Corporate gifting, onboarding kits, staff and uniform packs | Single-season promotions, events, drawstring bags and large graphics |
| Where we use it | Logo, laptop, school and travel backpacks, and coated ripstop rolltops | Logo backpacks, drawstring bags and welded tarpaulin rolltops (patch or print) |
| Proofing | Stitch simulation before anything runs | Free mockup within 24 hours |
| Minimum order | 12 backpacks | 12 backpacks |
When embroidery is the right call
Thread has depth and catches the light, and on a textured pack face it almost always reads better than ink. Embroidery involves a one-time digitizing setup, and the file is kept so a reorder next term matches the first run. It is the usual choice on custom logo backpacks and on laptop and commuter backpacks, where the mark sits small on a premium pack.
When screen print is the right call
Screen print handles large, full-colour artwork that would be impractical to stitch, which is why drawstring and cinch bags are printed full face, edge to edge. It also makes sense for a short promotion where the cost of thread stops being worth it. On welded tarpaulin rolltops we use screen print or a welded patch, because needle holes would defeat a sealed fabric, and we only embroider the coated ripstop version.
The verdict
Pick embroidery for corporate gifting, onboarding packs, schools and any bag meant to be carried for years.
Pick screen print for events, giveaways, drawstring bags and big graphics.
